Hanuman Finds Sita

Whew! Another Sita Sings the Blues musical number finished: Hanuman Finds Sita. Even at 25 MB, the compression knocked out significant detail of this web version, especially in the night scenes. But overall I think it's a good'un. Gags, gimmicks, AND narrative - hundreds of pages of text crammed into 3 minutes. Plus it contains all 4 main characters: Sita, Rama, Hanuman and Ravana, with extra added bonus demons.

People already familiar with the Ramayana will probably enjoy these musical bits more, but I'm trying to make the story understandable to anyone. To test how I'm doing, I've posted a short synopsis of Hanuman Finds Sita. If you're unfamiliar with the Ramayana, please watch the movie first, then read the synopsis and determine how much you "got" from the animation alone. Then please post your comments here and let me know - is the narrative working?

Comments:

Oh my gosh. That's just brilliant. Yes, the narrative is completely clear. Your animation is just spectacular! And what a terrific choice of song. I can hardly wait for the next installment!

Wow. I love the feel, I love the tone, I love the era. The story from these little tidbits alone is great, and I look forward to seeing the whole treatment as an animation. Great work!

Hi Nina,

Have you considered using a more modern video compression codec? QuickTime is a very old technology and tends to mutilate.

XviD is free, works on anything, and is very common for videos on the Internet now. With XviD, 25 MB would look fantastic for these shorts. The official site has only source code, but you can read about it there. If you use a PC, K-Lite Codec Pack 2.41 Full has everything you'd need in terms of authoring codecs.

I would recommend using XviD for video, and MP3 for audio.

I love this series. Keep up the great work. I've been a fan since Fetch!

Thanks everyone.

Nina,
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the Sitayana series, so much in fact, that I authored it to DVD for a friend of mine who teaches kindergarten. He's planning to teach the Ramayan (at least parts of it) to his wee students soon, and thinks that this would be wonderful to show them. Unfortunately, converting .mov files to dvd is an inexact science, and the mov files don't convert all that well. Might you have your work in other formats that might convert better? I'm thinking perhaps in whatever format you created it in. I promise to send you a DVD. A dozen, in fact!

wow. neato Nina! I love the old wierd/corniness, being a huge Betty Boop fan. Can't wait to see this all finished up as a feature. keep on truckin'! Are you going to do some of the dialog scenes with the VO actors muttering at the completed animation, like the fleischer's did in Popeye and betty boop? ("oh, whats this over here? mmmm.. oh!") it adds that certain something that makes thier cartoons so wonderfully unusual.(PS I love your film fetch!)

This is so cool...I've posted about your work on my site and wasn't able to leave a trackback since it's not enabled...if you're interested, you can go to my blog at mp.blogs.com, and search for your name on it.

thanks...great work.
