"i know you did the sita version, but she doesnt go up onto a piano and starts singing the blues, like wtf."

If concerned viewer Guyanese Princess is actually a woman, this marks my very first hate mail from the gentler sex. Truly, I have passed a milestone.

Update: the author of this email has since apologized (see comments).

hi,
i saw your sita sings the blues shit. you have the nerve to make a
movie
based on the ramayan like that. mata sita does not deserve to be
dressed
like that with her breasts popping out. i have read the ramayan, it is
not a
story trying to insult women, it is a story of the avatar of vishnu. i
know
you did the sita version, but she doesnt go up onto a piano and starts
singing the blues, like wtf. I AM A PROUD HINDU AND YOU ARE INSULTING
OUR
RELIGION AND OUR BELIEFS. I DO NOT APPRICIATE YOU TO DO THAT STORY.
PLEASE
EITHER REMAKE THAT MOVIE, TAKE IT OFF YOUR WEBSITE, OR MAKE A PUBLIC
APOLOGY
TO ALL HINDUS FOR THAT CRAP THAT YOU MADE. I REALLY DO NOT LIKE HOW YOU
MAKE
SHRI RAM EITHER, YOU MADE HIM LOOK LIKE SOME MACHO EGOISTIC GUY THAT
THINKS
HEZ THE BEST BECAUSE HE ISNT, HE IS LORD VISHNU IN HUMAN FORM TRYING TO
SAVE
HUMANITY.
I ASK AGAIN PLEASE, TAKE THAT MOVIE DOWN, REMAKE IT OR POST A PUBLIC
APOLOGY
TO ALL HINDUS, I AM VERY OFFENDED BY WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND I HATE YOU
FOR
IT, YOU HAVE INSULTED EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO BELIEVES IN HINDUISM. YOU
KARMA WILL COM BACK TO YOU, IN YOUR NEXT LIFE YOU WILL SUFFER GREATLY.

Comments:

Truly hilarious!

That aside, this person can't really be serious. I have a feeling this was in jest.

Doooooood. If that person is serious, they need perspective, a hobby, and a life, in descending order of how stupid they really are.

On the other hand, this is proof that people are watching and Sita Sings touches them. Yeayyyy!

Nina, soldier on! Sita Sings the Blues is fabulous!

hey

im urvi from mumbai, india !

first things first ! i think "sita sings the blues" is brilliant !

i love the colours and all the details !

i dont think you have insulted mata sita to say the least.
its actually great to see you bring the ramayana to your own ppl.
if a Proud hindu can say 'wtf' !!! then he/she should be liberasl and tolerant enough.
you need to know from a indian and a proud hindu ( this would b me ! )
that you have not insulted our religion or our beliefs.

plz dont remake the movie, or take it off the net or let ANYBODY convince you so...

there is no need to make a public apology either, but there is a need to make me a copy of all the episodes ! lol !!

india

PS. im also going to bwriting the Guyanese Princess an email to give her a piece of my mind ! which she rightly deserves...!

Good going Urviwani... while you're at it you could probably tell Guyanese Princess that she might wanna pay more attention to the atrocities going on in her country rather than waste her time dissing a level of talent and open-mindedness she'll never have. Please mention the karma that is in store for her for spewing hate like that as well. As a West Indian I'm disgusted. Keep up the good work Nina!

Hate mail from both sides of the gender fence? I'd say you're doing something right ;)

Nina,

Sita Sings the Blues is the only work of art that brought tears to my eyes as an adult (I'm thirty now).

tnx nina.u r doing a gr8 job..dont get discouraged by any hate mails..u have every right to see ,view and understand ramayana as any person born in india with "brown skin "..

hi everyone,
im the one who sent this letter. i truly apologize from the bottom of my heart. i didnt mean to send this letter, i was having a bad day and writing down how i feel about something helpz me. i saw this website and it brought more rage to me and i sent the letter by mistake instead of clicking on save as a draft. everyone of you hindus out there who has seen this, i hope you give me the boon of forgiving me for doing this, im just a stupid kid, im really sorry. and to every1 whoz wondering my gender im a grl. im really sorry, ms. paley, i regret sending that letter and im really sorry for saying all those hateful things, i was being really mean, i think itz great that your bringing desi culture to the west and i think you have a great talent. i really hope that your sitanya goes far.

Apology gratefully accepted, guyanese gyal. My jaw's on the floor, I certainly never expected this outcome. I'm also grateful and astounded at the support shown by so many others who have commented and emailed me, thank you all.

It's OK not to like Sita Sings the Blues, really it is. I expect that, I know it's not for everyone, and I'm aware that it (unfortunately and unintentionally) offends some. I'm also aware that I make a convenient target for folks with other grievances - everything from having a bad day, to a long history of colonial oppression. Intellectually I know I shouldn't take hate-emails personally, but they still hurt my feelings, and occasionally make me fear for my personal safety. So I post them here, to air them out and maybe get a laugh out of them.

I'm still amazed by that apology. Nothing gets me like a good apology. Wow.

Sita rocks!!! lol. i have nothing else to say :D

thank you Ms. Paley for accepting my apology
