White Male Imperialist Cultural Appropriation (kidding! I keed!)

Comments:

I use Sanjay Patel's book in my classroom all the time (and the Sitayana!) - my kids love the illustrations, but also the stories of farting gods. :)

I think Coatlicue, the Aztec goddess with a necklace of human hearts and hands, would fit in nicely here.

Good suggestion, Sylvia. I've revised and updated the post. Thanks.

That first depiction... that's how I feel on any given Monday.

Love your website!

How dare you (as a white, grown woman) attempt to culturally co-opt Hello Kitty, thus stealing her from the Japanese school girls who are the rightful keepers of her rich history???? :D

Be sure to include all the controversy on the eventual DVD, my friend.

Chris: I know! Will those uppity brown people shut up already about centuries of us "appropriating" (whatever THAT means) from them? Hell, we just want to create our pretty little art without disagreement from anyone! What's wrong with that? They're the stupid ones.
